Projections & Hardcore Histories
Sep. 12th, 2007 | 02:07 pm

This is what the mofo looked like. It was an Epson Powerlite 54C. Except that it had "NCAAV" written on the top of it. And the default screen (when you turn on the projector) has been changed. So good luck reselling this, whomever grabbed it!
Here's an opportunity for Chicago folk to have fun, watch amazing hardcore punk, and bring a donation for the replacement projector fund. Those who can't attend but would like to help us buy another projector for the NCAAV Department, please email me or servers directly.

HARDCORE HISTORIES: Midwest Hardcore Video Blow-Out!
at ausgang studios in Chicago
(email temporary services for location if you don't know it)
Earlier in the summer, we received a massive package of more than 8 hours of exceedingly rare live footage of midwestern hardcore bands on DVD from Jeff Barratt-McCartney. Jeff had just received the material himself and could not contain his enthusiasm. Very little of this stuff is on YouTube. None of it is commercially available from what we can tell. Nearly all of the material was filmed in the midwest between 1982-83 - in Michigan bingo halls, in backyards, in long defunct Ohio clubs, in people's homes and on public access TV. Some of the picture and sound quality is very good, some is the best that can be expected from a clunky borrowed VHS camcorder that probably weighed 15 pounds.
Included, sometimes playing multiple sets at different venues, are: The Crucifucks, MDC, The Dicks, SS Decontrol, Toxic Reasons, Violent Apathy, Minor Threat, The Necros, Rights of the Accused, The Meatmen, L-7, The Circle Jerks, Zero Defex and a ton more.
With ausgang studios providing the king-size digital projection and sound in the yard and with Jeff as our Michigan historian, we will make our way through as much of this material as we can stand, from dark until the last stage dive. There will be a grill going so bring food to cook and beverages to share. All ages.
........................................
Note: During an event at ausgang studios last weekend, someone vile person stole the communally shared video projector that Melinda has been using for countless free screenings all over the city. This event is happening only because we've secured a loan for the night. While this event is free, please consider bringing a donation to help purchase a new projector so that free film screenings can continue at the same unrelenting pace as they have all Summer.

Hardcore Histories is an event series devoted to unpacking the history of Hardcore punk music through presentations, discussions, free posters, meals and interactive social events. The series is currently co-organized by Marc Fischer, Terence Hannum, and Andre Foisy. Normally Hardcore Histories is presented at Mess Hall, however the opportunity to grill and sit outside in the yard proved too irresistible this time around.
